About this Case Study

Changing government is hard. Changing the wider system of our public realm is even harder. It’s complex, demanding and requires militant optimism.

This is an unusual historical tale about the journey of John Snow to prove to the government that cholera was water-borne. It provides us with musings on how his actions - which we can assimilate with our tools in service design - led to systems change and allow us to reflect on what it really takes to change a system.
