About the session

This talk will share our experience of using design futures within a Scottish Government policy team to help them navigate a critical moment in their programme.

What happens when you poke at the big, tense, knotty problem in your team?

In this case study, we reflect on our experience using design futures to help a Scottish Government policy team navigate a pivotal moment in their programme.

We’ll explore how by designing artefacts from moments in a possible future, we were able to poke at some key tensions and help them make tangible decisions now.

Join us to learn about design futures, about shaping policy direction, and how to make methods such as design futures pragmatic and actionable in challenging circumstances.

Participant takeaways:

  • Using design futures in a complex setting
  • Provotypes - what they are and how to use them
  • Making design futures pragmatic and actionable
  • Blending design across policy and service spaces
