City governments work at the intersection of governance and service delivery to provide value to their communities. But what are the enabling factors that help cities deliver better services in an increasingly complex world?
In this session we will identify critical success factors in delivering design at the city level, explore case studies from around the world, and discuss the next frontier in using service design to catalyse more equitable and impactful improvements to people’s lives.
About the speaker(s)
Stephanie Wade is a world leader in innovation and the Founder and CEO of Ascendant. She is an expert human-centered designer, strategist, keynote speaker, teacher, and change-maker working to build a better world.
Prior to starting Ascendant, Stephanie developed and delivered a $65M portfolio of city design-based innovation programs around the world at Bloomberg Philanthropies, served as the Director of an Innovation Lab in the U.S. Federal Government (Lab@OPM), and helped build Booz Allen Hamilton's human-centered design practice.
She is an adjunct professor in Civic Design at IIT's Institute of Design, has a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, a practitioners certificate in Design Thinking from the Austin Center for Design, and a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Studio Art from Boston College.
Ruben is the founder of Conic Group, a U.S.-based innovation firm. He is a designer, strategic facilitator and educator who helps leaders imagine and enact visionary change by engaging them in a purposeful and meaningful dialogue with their customers, workforce, and other key stakeholders.
Ruben has delivered master-level courses in management and design and has spoken at design conferences and seminars in the US and abroad. He has been certified as an instructor with LUMA Institute and as a Master Trainer with the Service Design Network.
Currently, Ruben is an Adjunct Faculty member at the IIT Institute of Design in Chicago and a global City Innovation Coach with Bloomberg Philanthropies. Ruben holds a Master’s degree in Human-centered Design from the IIT Institute of Design and a MBA in International Operations from Loyola University Chicago.
