About the session

Census 2021 took place across England and Wales in March. It was our first digital-first census.

Hear from two content designers at the Office for National Statistics about how they rose to the challenge of designing content to meet the user needs of around 30 million people.

Using content design principles, they made the census service as simple and user-centred as possible, with the right content in the right place at the right time.

Participant takeaways:

  • How content design works at ONS, and how we prioritised what we focused on
  • How we defined, tested and met user needs
  • Real life examples from different parts of the census service, showing how we improved content to make it user-centred
