About the session

Millions of people use GOV.UK every month to do and find out about some of the most important things in their lives, like finding jobs, moving, or managing a health condition.

GDS want more people in the UK to be able to get what they need from the government, which is why their strategy is all about growth and trying new things.

The scale of GOV.UK means that Kuba and Same have to think carefully about how to experiment with new product propositions that use emerging technology, like generative AI.

This talk will describe their approach to user-centred experimentation with AI across GOV.UK, using practical examples of delivery from the past year.

Participant takeaways:

  • When to work with AI
  • How to explore where AI can add value to users, including examples of prototypes
  • How to research and design experimental AI products
  • How to manage risks for users, and how to talk about those risks with stakeholders
  • How to develop AI expertise within teams
