About the session
This talk will focus on how we can go beyond designing services for users’ and organisational needs to also include consideration of impact on the planet.
Ned will cover the inspiring journey of the planet-centred design working group, an overview of set of detailed principles for lower-environmentally impacting services and then look to how we can take a systems-thinking approach to map a service’s supporting infrastructure and processes in order to identify impact ‘hotspots’ and leverage points.
Participant Takeaways:
- A sense of empowerment from the story of a handful of user-centred designers who took the initiative to drive this work from the ground up.
- The set of detailed principles for the design of lower-environmentally impacting services, which can be put into practice right away!
- An understanding of what the typical infrastructure and ecosystem supporting services looks like, and where the key leverage points from an environmental point of view are likely to be.
Themes:
Climate, sustainability, systems thinking, design paradigms.
