About the session
At the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, we're on a mission to increase opportunity and prosperity across the country and have responsibility for delivering billions of pounds of funding to achieve these outcomes.
Antiquated tooling and complicated processes mean funding is difficult to access and deliver. Using a design lens to reframe funding as a service, our team is cutting complexity and prioritising people over process in a revolutionary drive to change how we deliver government funding forever.
- Policy 'design' happens in Government all the time, and 'designers' are finally being given a seat at the table, but we're not going to improve or influence it if we hold rigid and formulaic mantras around UCD.
- Ministers and civil servants don't always understand the link between policy formation and technical product design/delivery.
- With carefully considered approaches and communication it is possible to galvanise ‘traditional’ civil service teams to embark upon major transformation, setting a high bar for ambitious changes to the experience of interacting with government, and conceptualising this as a service pattern that has relevance across the organisation.
