In Birmingham, citizens are being failed by reactive, transactional service delivery that does not tackle the root cause of their issues.

Hear how Birmingham City Council, Europe’s largest council is transforming how services are designed and delivered to focus on Early Intervention and Prevention.

Shagun & Kalvinder will share an asset-based community-led approach, focusing on the strengths of communities and amplifying assets that provide holistic services - not only for councils but the wider public, voluntary and community sector.

About the speaker(s)

Shagun Seth

With a background in psychology, applied anthropology and human-centred design coupled with an MBA, Shagun’s key skills are in understanding the lived experiences of citizens and staff, designing future facing and resilient services, using behaviour change to drive positive change in organisations and helping communities help themselves through strength and asset-based approaches.

Over the years, she has worked with a range of local authorities and charities on topics such as community integration, adult social care, digital inclusion, violence against women and girls and homelessness. Shagun is an advocate for inclusivity in all its forms, and believes that people, teams and organisations thrive when we are intentional about inclusion.

Kalvinder Kohli

Kalvinder has worked across the voluntary and community sector and local government for over 25 years. She has led the number of programmes, strategies and commissioning activities focusing on prevention, earlier interventions and asset- based community development.

Kalvinder has led the Adult Social Care Directorates Prevention First Agenda supporting the delivery of the vision for Adult Social Care since 2017 which includes the development of the award - winning Neighbourhood Networks Schemes. Kalvinder currently leads the Council wide transformation programme moving from Crisis to Prevention in order to deliver the aspirations of citizens and communities.
