About the session

Join this interactive session to explore how to incorporate an advocacy approach into service design and digital technology projects through the lens of two case studies.

Learn about an approach to influencing policy and how its been applied to 1) improving a U.S. food-assistance programme for young children, and 2) supporting case workers in quickly enrolling people in government benefits programmes with responsible applications of artificial intelligence (AI).

Throughout the session, you’ll learn the ingredients for successful advocacy and lessons learned, engage in discussion about your advocacy experiences and apply the approach to your own contexts, and walk away equipped to contribute meaningfully to strengthening the loop between policy, programmatic mission, and implementation.

Participant takeaways:

  • The opportunities for service designers and other service delivery improvement professionals to get involved with advocating for policies
  • The benefits of bringing service delivery and advocacy fields together
  • Adding value with learnings from user research, rapid experiments, prototypes, demonstrations, and/or quick pilots
